All-new 2025 Proton X50 facelift bookings opened – New 1.5L 4-cyl, 3 variants

2025 Proton X50 booking opened

Just earlier this week, Proton took the covers off the highly-anticipated all-new 2025 Proton X50 facelift, and today, the national carmaker has opened bookings for its upcoming B-segment SUV.

As part of the early bird promo, Proton is offering a RM 1,000 cash rebate, ‘Gempak Deal’ (to be revealed during the official launch), and a special edition Touch n Go card. Those interested can visit this link.

The offer will start from today, 5-July 2025 until the official launch, for the first 10,000 customers.

What’s new with the all-new 2025 Proton X50 facelift?

As a brief recap, the all-new 2025 Proton X50 facelift drops the three-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine in favour of a new four-cylinder 1.5-litre engine.

Proton calls this engine the i-GT 1.5TD, and it produces 181 PS at 5,500 rpm (+4 PS) and 290 Nm from 2,000 rpm to 3,500 rpm (+35 Nm) compared to the older 3-pot motor. Moreover, this new engine is 4.7% more efficient than before, and aids the X50 facelift to complete the century sprint in just 7.6 seconds – 0.3 second quicker.

In this round of update, all variants of the all-new 2025 Proton X50 facelift get the same engine – there’s no more separation between the multi-point fuel injection (MPI) and direct injection (TGDI) variants.

As before, a 7-speed, wet-type, dual-clutch (DCT) automatic transmission takes care of shifting duties, sending power to the front wheels.

Apart from the new 4-pot motor, there’s also the redesigned exterior and interior – further emphasizing on the ‘all-new’ aspect of the X50.

Think of it as ‘same-same, but different’ – the front fascia is largely inspired by the China-market Geely Binyue L, with Proton’s Ethereal Bow taking centrestage. Out goes the projector LED headlights, which now make way for slimmer, more modern-looking reflector LED headlights. The front fog lights on the pre-updated X50 have been dropped as well.

The rear has also been revamped. Instead of the two separate LED tail lights, the 2025 Proton X50 facelift gets a one-piece LED tail light, giving it a distinct look. Couple that with the redesigned rear bumper and quad exhaust tips, there’s no mistaking the X50 for anything else.

There’s also a revamped exterior and redesigned cabin – the latter is Proton’s homegrown effort.

Compared to the pre-updated X50, the all-new 2025 model gets a sleeker dashboard that’s minimalist and tech-forward. Out goes the small LCD displays, as the 2025 X50 swaps the instrument cluster with a information-rich 8.88-inch unit, while the infotainment display is now a massive 14.6-inch unit.

Said infotainment display runs on the Android 10 operating system, powered by an unspecified quad core processor with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. But specs aside, what truly matters is the fact that the all-new 2025 Proton X50 facelift will be the first Proton model to launch straight with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; there’s no waiting like other models.

Out goes the traditional gear shifter, as Proton has relocated the gear selector to the steering column, similar to the eMas 7. At the same time, the freed-up space on the centre console now houses a Qi wireless charging pad on the right side.

The all-new 2025 Proton X50 also takes the ‘Intelligence that Amazes’ up a couple of notches – all variants of this B-segment SUV now receive a rear millimeter-wave radar, which Proton calls Rear Side Radar System (RSRS).

RSRS adds features like Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Opening Warning (DOW).

Proton has also trimmed the variants of the 2025 X50, as there are only three variants moving forwards. The Standard variant is no more, and the line-up starts with the Executive variant.
