Mazda has officially unveiled the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5, marking the third generation of its best-selling C-segment SUV. Since its debut in 2012, the Mazda CX-5 has sold over 4.5 million units globally, and the latest iteration is poised to build upon that success.

Set to arrive in European showrooms by the end of 2025, the 2026 CX-5 will gradually roll out to other global markets in 2026. German prices are expected to start from EUR 34,500 (~RM 172k).
Exterior: Sharper looks, new lighting, sleeker design

Developed under the concept of “New Generation Emotional Daily Comfort”, the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 draws inspiration from its Large Product Group siblings – the CX-60, CX-70, and CX-80 – while maintaining a unique identity.

The all-new third-generation Mazda CX-5 continues to be designed under the Soul of Motion design language, and as Mazda puts it “the new CX-5 offers joy and excitement when you look at, touch, and ride in the car”.
In terms of dimensions, the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 details can be seen below:

Up front, the rounded headlights on the previous KF-generation model now makes way for more angular units, replete with Mazda’s signature LED lighting; albeit with a slight twist. The signature LED lighting, which Mazda calls Signature Wing, now stacks on top of each other, thus creating a visually taller set of headlights, flanking a more angular signature Mazda front grille.

There’s also a more prominent lower air intake compared to the previous KF-generation CX-5, and when combined with the new headlights and grille, give the CX-5 a far sportier look than its Large Product Group family of SUVs.

Around the rear, the tail lights now extend into the tailgate, reminiscent of the CX-60 and CX-70, while the traditional Mazda roundel has been replaced by “MAZDA” script badging.

The lower half of the all-new Mazda CX-5 is also less fussy than its Large Product Group siblings, as it gets a simple black finishing and twin muffler tips – no oversized rear diffuser or chrome pieces here.

Wheel size for the all-new Mazda CX-5 range from 17-inch for the entry-level Prime-Line variant, all the way to 19-inch diamond-cut or black alloys on upper trims. Mazda will be offering a total of eight new colours on the all-new CX-5.
Interior: Minimalist, digital, and Google-powered

Stepping inside, Mazda designers have greatly simplified the cabin of the all-new CX-5. The cabin now embodies the principle of ‘Ma’, a key pillar of Japanese aesthetics that prioritise space, balance, and harmony.

There’s now a large infotainment display, available either in 12.9- or 15.6-inch sizes, which integrates most vehicle controls, including air-conditioning controls. There’s also built-in Google, a first for Mazda. It integrates Google Gemini AI assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play app store.

Apart from the removal of physical air-conditioning controls, the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 also gets steering wheel switches with haptic feedback; the physical buttons are no more.

Elsewhere, there’s a range of materials that European buyers can choose from for the interior trim, including black fabric, black or two-tone black-and-white leather-like materials for the mid-spec variants, to genuine leather in black or sports tan in the top-spec Homura variant.

There’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, seven selectable ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, 12-speaker Bose sound system, and hands-free power tailgate available as an option for European customers.
Powertrain: 2.5-litre e-SkyActiv-G MHEV engine replaces 2.0 unit

Powering the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 is a newly-optimised 2.5-litre e-SkyActiv-G petrol engine mated to Mazda’s 24V M Hybrid (mild-hybrid, MHEV) system. This new engine replaces the base 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine for the European market, and it produces 141 PS and 238 Nm.

Said engine is mated to Mazda’s tried-and-tested 6-speed automatic transmission, which featured revised shit mapping and upgraded hydraulic torque converter control. Drive is routed either to the front wheels, or all four wheels (AWD), depending on variant.

This new powertrain combination is fully compliant with the stringent Euro 6e emission regulations, and marks a strategic step towards a future Euro 7-compliant version. That said, it remains to be seen if the KF-generation engines are carried over for markets outside of Europe, considering that how strict European emissions are.

What about Malaysia?

Right now, it’s too soon to say when the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 will arrive here. For local distributor Bermaz to offer competitive prices, the new model would need to be locally-assembled (CKD), which could add to the lead time.
Fret not, as Bermaz does have some interesting launches lined up, including the new 2025 Mazda 3 1.5L and 2025 Mazda CX-60.
