GWM Malaysia has officially previewed the 2025 GWM Wey 80, its upcoming plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) MPV, at the ongoing Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2025.

This new model is set to challenge key rivals like the 2025 Denza D9 and 2025 Zeekr 009, but unlike those full EVs, the Wey 80 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) – thus eliminating range anxiety.

What powertrain does the 2025 GWM Wey 80 get?

Under the bonnet, the 2025 GWM Wey 80 features a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 156 PS, paired to two electric motors:

  • Front motor: 177 PS (130 kW)
  • Rear motor: 183 PS (135 kW)

Together, the 2025 GWM Wey 80 offers a combined output of 487 PS and 762 Nm. The motors are powered by a 37.96-kWh ternary lithium battery sourced from Svolt, enabling a pure electric range of 140 km under the CLTC test cycle.

As previously reported, the 2025 GWM Wey 80 gets a bespoke RHD dashboard – there’s a two-piece digital display setup (China-spec models get a tri-screen display). The larger display (size was undisclosed) houses the infotainment and vehicle controls.

Other equipment that were fitted to the PHEV MPV on display include 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 245/50R18 Michelin Primacy 5 Energy tyres, LED headlights and LED tail lights, wireless charging pad with cooling vents, digital rear view mirror, and what appears to be Auto Park Assist (APA, as seen on the steering wheel button).

The GWM Wey 80 will be assembled locally (CKD) in Malaysia, joining the Haval H6 as part of GWM Malaysia’s CKD line-up. Local assembly will be carried out by EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) at their facility in Melaka.
