GWM Malaysia has just launched the new 2026 GWM Wey G9 in Malaysia. This new PHEV MPV was first spotted in Malaysia back in mid-2025, with bookings opened in early-December.
Overview
The company is offering one single Hi4 Ultra variant here in Malaysia, mirroring a similar arrangement as Thailand. Our neighbours up north import (CBU) their Wey G9 from Malaysia.
Local assembly (CKD) work is done by EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) at its Melaka plant – the same plant that’s also responsible for exporting the G9 to Thailand. Malaysia, on the other hand, imports the GWM Tank 500 HEV from Thailand.
The 2026 GWM Wey G9 is priced at RM 269,800 (on-the-road, without insurance). The first 1,000 customers will receive a complimentary rear entertainment display.

Exterior
There’s an air of elegance with the 2026 GWM Wey G9 – its massive chrome grille up front is flanked by a pair of projector LED headlights. Said grille also houses the front camera and millimeter-wave radar.
As standard, our Malaysian-spec cars are fitted with 245/50R18 Michelin Primacy 5 Energy tyres all-round.
As for the rear, there’s a full-width LED tail light with vertical light bars at each corner. Chrome accents are limited to the rear bumper, with the lower bit of the rear bumper receiving a thin chrome trim.
In terms of dimensions, the Wey G9 measures 5,050 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, 1,900 mm tall, and sits on a 3,085 mm wheelbase.
Colour options include Aurora White, Nebula Black, and Wisdom Grey.
Interior
The Wey G9 may be GWM’s first stab at a premium MPV, but the Baoding-based company has done their homework and has put considerably amount of thought into the development process.
The cabin is upholstered in Nappa leather, while the second row features zero-gravity seats with one-button reset, ventilation (seat cushion + backrest), and 10-point massage zones.
A 12.5-litre dual-opening fridge sits between the front seats, accessible via a front armrest opening for the driver and passenger, and a rear drawer for second-row occupants. The fridge features a two-tier design, with a temperature range of 0°C to 50°C across three modes: Cooling (0°C–15°C), Heating (35°C–50°C), and Fresh-keeping (10°C).
Flexibility is aided by sliding tracks for both second- and third-row seats, expanding luggage space from 233 litres to 1,725 litres.
Entertainment is backed by a large 14.6-inch touchscreen system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which pumps audio through a 21-speaker sound system.
Powertrain
Powering the 2026 GWM Wey G9 in a petrol-electric hybrid system, comprised of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 150 PS and 240 Nm and two electric motors. Combined system output is 325 kW (442 PS) and 642 Nm. As the Hi-4 name suggests, the MPV is all-wheel drive (AWD) and offers EV, EV Priority, and Smart Hybrid driving modes.
Powering the two electric motors is a 44.2-kWh ternary lithium battery pack. This battery pack supports DC fast charging up to 60 kW, which can charge the pack from 30% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) in 26 minutes. AC Charging peaks at 6.6 kW, recharging from 15% to 100% in 6.5 hours.
Combined, GWM Malaysia mentions that the Wey G9 can do up to a NEDC-rated range of 170 km in EV mode alone. Under the same test cycle, the GWM Wey G9 can return up to 1,000 km.
