Moments ago, Proton has just launched the new 2026 Proton X90 MC and it is the fourth and final model of Proton’s three-cylinder-to-four-cylinder product update.
Overview
The 2026 Proton X90 MC is the last of Proton’s model to receive the new four-cylinder Aurobay-sourced engine. Proton’s four-cylinder update started with the X50, followed by the X70 and S70. Even the Proton Saga MC3 is recipient to this engine, albeit in naturally-aspirated form.
In this update exercise, the naming convention of the variants have been completely overhauled – out goes the familiar Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship variants, as they have been replaced by Lite, Prime, and Prime X.
The renaming of these variants is a hint at the X90 MC’s equipment count.

As part of the early bird promo, Proton is offering aRM 7,000 rebate, which slashes the prices down to:
- 2026 Proton X90 MC 1.5TD Lite: RM 99,800
- 2026 Proton X90 MC 1.5TD Prime: RM 109,800
- 2026 Proton X90 MC 1.5TD Prime X: RM 115,800
All prices are on-the-road, without insurance. These prices mark a RM 30,000 reduction in price compared to when the Proton X90 was launched back in 2023.
Exterior
The exterior of the 2026 Proton X90 MC is identical to the outgoing three-cylinder model, albeit with the removal of the 48V EMS emblem underneath the side mirrors.
This time around, all three variants feature the same 18-inch alloy wheels; the earlier 19-inch units have been discontinued.
Colour options include Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Marine Blue, Quartz Black, and Snow White. Cinnamon Brown and Ruby Red have been removed in this update exercise.

Interior
Much of the cabin of the 2026 Proton X90 MC is carried over from the predecessor model, though Proton has pointed out that the X90 MC now gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support via the improved 12.3-inch infotainment display.
The Lite and Prime variants offer leatherette seat upholstery, which are upgraded to Nappa leather seats on the Prime X variant.
Powertrain
The highlight of this update exercise is the new turbocharged 1.5-litre BHE15 four-cylinder petrol engine. It makes a healthy 181 PS and 290 Nm, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends power to the front wheels.
Compared to the three-cylinder model, power figures are slightly down, as the X90 MC drops the 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) system, which includes its belt-starter generator (BSG) that added another 13 PS and 45 Nm.

In terms of equipment on the new 2026 Proton X90 MC, the 1.5TD Lite kicks things off with:
- LED headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLs)
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Roof rails
- 12.3-inch infotainment display
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 7 USB charging ports
- 6 SRS airbags
- Rear parking sensors
Then the mid-spec 1.5TD Prime adds:
- Automatic headlights
- Automatic rain-sensing front wipers
- Front welcome lights
- 10.3-inch digital driver display
- 360-degree camera with 180-degree transparent chassis view
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
- Front parking sensors
As for the top-spec 1.5TD Prime X variant, it adds:
- Nappa leather upholstery
- 6-way power-adjustable driver seat with 2-way lumbar
- 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat with “boss switch”
- First and second row ventilated seats
- Second-row captain seats
- Front DVR
Keen-eyed readers would notice that the equipment list lacks any form of Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS); the previous 3-cylinder model offered a host of ADAS features, including AEB, FCW, ACC, RCW, ICC, TSI, and even LCC.
