Upcoming Proton Saga Cross (AMA02) could offer 4 variants, including a PHEV

2026 could be an interesting year for Proton, as the national car maker will likely introduce the second model based on the Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) platform soon.

Codenamed AMA02, the second model could be the upcoming Proton Saga Cross, and our friends over at Funtasticko have some juicy details.

According to them, the upcoming Saga Cross (AMA02) could offer four variants:

  • 1.5L Standard (NA)
  • 1.5L Executive (NA)
  • 1.5L Premium (NA)
  • 1.5L Flagship (PHEV)

In the case of the NA variants, power is said to come from the same naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre BHE15 engine that currently powers the Saga MC3, making 120 PS and 150 Nm. That said, unlike the Saga’s use of a 4-speed automatic and CVT-type automatic, the upcoming Saga Cross (AMA02) is said to be fitted exclusively with the former.

Where are the prototypes?

Hang in there – Funtasticko reported that test mules of the upcoming Saga Cross (AMA02) would start road-testing around end-May.

Mass production of the model, according to them, will likely commence in October, with the launch expected to take place in November or December 2026.

But before the official launch, Funtasticko reported that Proton may display a concept version of the Saga Cross (AMA02) at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2026 (KLIMS 2026) in June.
