Proton bucks downward trend, sold 157,976 units in 2025, 3.3% higher than 2024

Proton has concluded 2025 with a total of 157,976 units sold, bucking the downward trend the market is currently experiencing.

Last month, Proton sold 14,655 units, thus bringing the total 2025 sales to 157,976 units. This marks an overall growth of 3.3% over 2024 and Proton’s market share is estimated to be at 19.4%, an increase of 0.7% in a year when Total Industry Volume (TIV) is estimated to have contracted by 0.2% to 814,949 units.

The growth in Proton’s sales figure was driven by a number of model launches, international expansion, and national initiatives.

Proton models continue to lead their segment

Several Proton models continue to dominate their respective segments, including:

2026 Proton Saga MC3 front view
  • Proton Saga: Proton’s best-selling model has recorded its highest sales since 2011 with 74,013 units sold YTD. October saw 8,373 registrations, the highest monthly volume since the strategic partnership with Geely began, while December sales grew 15.1% (7,975 units) year-on-year. The updated Saga MC3 is expected to continue that momentum
  • Proton X50: Cemented its position as the Malaysia’s number 1 B-segment SUV for five consecutive years. It recorded 28,057 units sold for the whole of 2025, representing an 18.6% YTD growth compared to 2024. This was further improved by an August peak of 4,287 units (the best in 35 months) with the launch of the updated X50.
  • Proton X70: 112,386 cumulative registrations since its debut, maintaining its status as the most successful C-segment SUV in the segment’s history since 2018.
  • Proton S70: Held the No. 1 spot in the C-Sedan (under RM100k) segment for 15 consecutive months.
  • Proton X90: Remained the No. 1 D-segment SUV segment leader for 10 months in 2025 and has held the 2025 top spot since its launch three years ago.
  • Proton eMAS 7: Secured its position as the No. 1 EV in Malaysia for 2025, holding the top spot for five consecutive months (June – October).

Further Proton dealer network expansion and EV readiness

Proton has further expanded its dealer network to 187 Proton Edar outlets, which includes 27 new 3S/4S centres and Sales City Centres.

On the EV front, the Proton eMas network has quickly grown to become Malaysia’s largest dedicated EV dealer network, with 48 eMas dealerships, of which 36 are 3S centres, 12 1S centres, and 10 dedicated Body and Paint facilities.

But it’s not just expanding dealer network, as Proton is also expanding the national charging infrastructure with 44 eMas dealerships now fitted with DC fast charging stations.

Proton’s export ambitions continue to grow

Through the newly-formed Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), Proton’s export volume has grown exponentially, marking a 26% growth over 2025 with 6,000 registrations YTD.

Part of that was driven by:

  • Proton returns to Singapore with the Proton eMas 7, 11 years after its exit in 2014. A total of 224 units were exported to Singapore in 2025.
  • Egypt is Proton’s largest export market with 2,280 units, while a total of 1,136 units of the Geely Coolray were exported to Vietnam (made in Tanjong Malim for Geely)
  • The Proton Saga, Proton X50, and Proton eMas 7 are the highest exported models, with the X50 achieving its highest-ever annual export volume of 1,747 units. A total of 3,109 units of the Proton Saga were exported, the highest number since 2012.
  • December saw 986 units exported, the highest monthly volume in 2025. Markets include Bangladesh, Egypt, Singapore, as well as Trinidad & Tobago.
