We previously explored the top-selling car brands in Malaysia for 1H 2025. Now, let’s zoom in on the top 10 Chinese car brands dominating Malaysia’s automotive market.
1. Chery Malaysia – Top Chinese brand by a wide margin

With 14,166 units sold in the first half of 2025, Chery leads as Malaysia’s best-selling Chinese car brand. Much of this success is driven by the Jaecoo J7, which registered 5,858 units, making it the best-selling Chinese SUV in Malaysia.
Following closely is the Omoda C9 with 3,365 units sold YTD. Chery’s Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro (combined under “Chery Tiggo” in JPJ’s data) recorded a combined 2,542 units.

The Omoda 5, Chery’s B-segment SUV, also saw strong sales with 2,449 units sold YTD and a notable uptick in June with 445 units sold, defying the month’s sales dip trend.

With the launch of the 2025 Chery Tiggo Cross, Chery Malaysia will likely carry forward this momentum for the second half of the year.

2. BYD – Malaysia’s best-selling EV brand
BYD secured the second spot with 5,400 units sold YTD. The BYD Sealion 7 leads the brand’s local portfolio with 1,960 units sold, followed by the Atto 3 at 1,701 units.

Though the Atto 3 outsold the Sealion 7 in June, it’s the latter that holds the overall edge. Meanwhile, the BYD Seal sedan posted 679 units, just trailing its archival, the Tesla Model 3 (825 units YTD).
That being said, we reckon that BYD’s sales figures are expected to climb over the couple of months, as BYD will be launching the BYD Atto 2 soon, bridging the gap between the BYD Dolphin and BYD Atto 3.

6. Denza – Strong showing with just one model
For the first six months of 2025, Denza ranks just below Xpeng with 615 units sold.

Though it trails Xpeng in overall sales numbers, keep in mind that at the time of writing, Denza only offers one model – the Denza D9 EV MPV.
